The Sisterhood of the Maternity Pants

My jeans are getting too tight in the waist.

At 16 weeks along, I guess this shouldn’t be too much of a shock. But I’ve been on the fence about pulling out my maternity clothes for a while, mostly because I know that once I’m in them, there’s no going back.

Still, my jeans are tight.

We were over at Friend and Doc’s house for dinner last night, and I mentioned to Friend that I wanted to try on a maternity dress that she bought when she was pregnant with Rupert this last time around – who, by the way, is creeping around everywhere and has some adorable little teeth in his big drooly grin – that I really liked.

Friend brought the dress down, along with a top. Then the Webmaster mentioned that I needed maternity jeans.

It’s true – I only have one pair of maternity jeans. Mostly because when I was pregnant with Ane, I was still working in an office environment and could only wear jeans on casual Fridays – so I do have a pair of black maternity slacks and some skirts. With Tad, I was heavily pregnant in the dead of summer, so I have maternity shorts from that pregnancy.

Friend, who is close to me in size and height – and we both are short-legged – immediately brought down jeans.

It turned into The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants – for those of you not familiar with the book and subsequent movie, it follows four teenage girls who all happen to fit into the same pair of jeans over a summer. Take it from there. Except that Friend and I have turned it into the Sisterhood of the Maternity Pants. As in, I am wearing a pair of her maternity jeans right now.

By the time I left their house, I was carrying out one dress, one top, two pairs of jeans, one pair of black pants, and a black corduroy skirt. It was better than online shopping.

It’s good to have a friend whose pants you can fit into – and borrow. Thank you, Friend. 🙂

And yes… today is the day. As in, my birthday. Again. It happens once a year. I think we’re going out for ice cream tonight – I have a distinct craving for some Baskin-Robbins rainbow sherbet.

Happy birthday, you old hag! I’m so glad that I live far enough away that you can’t hit me for that.

The kids will call this afternoon to sing to you.

You forgot to mention that you reciprocated by having Webmaster bring me over one of his free T-shirts from PAX!

Happy birthday #31. Is that why you want to go to BR??

Sorry about the two entries. More birthday wishes is a good thing! I’m getting used to my new computer. What does “awaiting moderation” mean????

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I’d say the card is in the mail, but to be honest, it’s not. Somehow September 28 always sneaks up on me, which I don’t know why that is since it’s not like September 1st through 27th don’t give me ample warning. Anyway, enjoy the ice cream! And the pants! (I started wearing maternity pants earlier than necessary, because they are COMFY. I still wear them sometimes, and Auletta’s almost 2…)
