All By Myself

Yesterday was the first day that the Webmaster went back to work since Rerun was born.  So I was on my own with all three kids for the first time.  Comparing it to the first day that I was alone with Ane and Tad, it was a piece of cake.

First of all, the kids didn’t have school at all yesterday – it was a teacher inservice day.  And Tad is actually off all this week, because his preschool is having parent-teacher conferences.  So the Webmaster got ready for work, roused me a little to say that he was leaving – and warn me that Ane was awake and playing in her room – and left.

An hour later, I woke up to find Rerun still peacefully sleeping next to me – and Tad in bed with me as well.  “Mama, I hungry.  Time for lunch,” he informed me.

I panicked for half a second before putting my glasses on and realizing it was only 9 am.  Tad has a habit of calling all meals “lunch.”

Rerun kept sleeping while the kids ate breakfast, and woke up by the time my breakfast was ready.  And he wanted a second – or third – breakfast.  I managed that while the kids watched a little TV – and ate my own breakfast somewhere in there.

After we had all eaten and dressed, I packed everyone up and off we went to Grandma’s for the afternoon.  Auntie didn’t have school either, and Libby was there as well.  So it was kind of a play date/movie day – we brought Up over to watch.  Grandma had never seen it before, but all the kids had (and they all enjoy it), so it was a good pick.

The only flaw in my day was that Ane and Tad ended up not napping, which meant that they were positively crazed by the time dinner rolled around and the Webmaster got home.  Rerun had been very cooperative and napped well, but I was running on 4 hours of sleep and I hadn’t been able to drop off with him, because the older two were trying to strangle each other every time my back was turned.  It was an “early bedtime” night.

The Webmaster and I then gave Rerun a bath, and then we had an early bedtime, too.  It didn’t last long for me, though, because Rerun was back up at 1:45 am for a snack.

But he’s cute, so I’ll give him a pass.
