She talks a lot

The Munchkin is rapidly approaching the two-and-a-half year mark, and her ability to express herself and her vocabulary is increasing each day, it seems. And I’m finding out that she’s pretty honest, as well (I’m sure that won’t last, but one can hope). Here are just a few examples from this week:

“Mommy, I need to go potty.” This was great, because she was still dry when she came to me and said this! We’re moving along here! She used the potty four times yesterday, and is really getting the hang of this. Now my only problem is dropping everything (including her brother), when she says this to me, because I have to be on top of every request that she makes, so she can use the potty (or try to) and work on her control. Oh, and to score a stick of Pocky, too. Can’t forget about that.

Me: (seeing her starting to open my desk drawers which contain paper and punches for card making) “Munchkin, what are you doing??”
The Munchkin: “I getting into your stuff.” Hey, I’ve got to give the kid points for honesty. At least she didn’t try to blame her brother.

She was looking through her brother’s foam bath toys, which Friend got for him at Pottery Barn Kids. They are these solid-color flat foam pieces that will stick to the sides of the tub when wet. “Look, Mommy! A horsie, a sheep, a pig…” she holds up the red barn. “A church!” For the record, our church does have a barn on the property – it used to be farmland, and the barn now holds the youth group activities. So, she wasn’t that far off!

We watched one of her favorite Veggie Tales episodes a few days ago – Larry Boy and the Fib from Outer Space. The next day, she began telling me all about it. “Mommy, Junior broke a plate. Junior got a Fib. Larry Boy save Junior.” This kept up for at least a few hours, and then Handy Girl came over and she got to tell her all about it as well.

The Webmaster, once upon a time, created a Star Wars screensaver for me by capturing images from the movies and having them appear at random on a black screen. The Munchkin loves to just sit and watch this until the monitor powers down after a period of time. “Look, there’s Luke! And Pincess! Dat’s Yoda, and Vader, and dat’s Artoo-too… Mommy, who dat?” I tell her (it’s usually someone more obscure, like Darth Maul), and then she starts back up again. Then the monitor blinks off. “Mommy, where Star Wars go?” I tell her that it will come back later. “Bye-bye, Star Wars!” she says gaily.

This, of course, is the same kid who asked her father for “Vader music” last night at bedtime. He cued up the Imperial March for her from her Star Wars CD and all was well. I came in to give her a good-night kiss, and she told me, very solemnly, that “Vader fight Luke.”

And of course, let’s not forget the classic…
“Mommy, baby playing with MY TOYS!! NO, baby!!”

Ah, you’ve got to love it. I miss her and Baby Boy. Tell her she can call me whenever she wants, I love hearing her talk. And congratulations on the potty training!

Yesterday, I was cutting up some string, and our little guy pointed to the string on the floor and said, “Look, Mama — CHURCH!”

I looked to see what he was talking about — two string pieces had overlapped to form a cross.
