The Mathematical Mind

Rerun still loves puzzles.  Fortunately, we were able to introduce some new ones to him, instead of just the five “Cars” ones he kept doing over and over.  It’s been great because all I have to do is pull one or two out of storage at a time.  Right now, there is a “Green Eggs and Ham” puzzle and two Sesame Street ones on the living room floor.  He’s still doing 24 piece puzzles.

I also got a Veggie Tales color block puzzle for him, which is nine blocks with six different sides, with a character associated with a color (Bob is red, Larry is green, etc.).  This has been pretty funny because Rerun will spell out the letters, but doesn’t know what the word is.  For example, “G-R-E-E-N.  Larry Boy!”  Or, “G-R-E-E-N.  Orn-nage (orange)!”

We’re working on the colors right now.

But he’s also been playing with a Disney character matching game that he got for his birthday.  It has classic characters (like Dumbo, Bambi, and Jiminy Cricket) along with more modern ones (Nemo, Simba, Timon and Pumbaa).  He likes to look through the square cards and find the matches, even though he’s not playing the game.

The Webmaster asked him to put his game away a couple of nights ago, and we found this:

If you can’t tell from the picture, Rerun has stacked the cards in a staircase pattern.  Each stack is one card less than the stack before.  He even turned the corners of the box.  The Webmaster was dying from laughter.  Between this and the puzzles, this boy’s brain clearly has a mathematical bent.

I should give him a Rubik’s Cube and see what happens.
