Rerun Explains It All

When we visited the zoo a week ago, the penguins were molting.  There were feathers coming off some of them in large patches.

And as one swam by, with bubbles streaming off the feathery down of the penguin’s back, a feather flew off in the bubbles.

“LOOK!” Rerun yelped. “That penguin farted out a feather!”

While Auntie tried to hold her laughter in, I said, “No, the air bubbles are coming from the waterproof feathers, and when the penguin swims down, the air gets forced out of the feathers, and the feathers are falling off right now…”

I trailed off as R., who was with us, was giving me a skeptical look, as if to say, “I know you’re right, but….”

Or, as Auntie put it, “Yeah, I like Rerun’s explanation better.”
