“You’ve taken your first step into a larger world.”

HE WALKS.

I am so screwed.

Baby Boy decided to show off for the Webmaster’s parents (they were up visiting on Saturday), and took his first steps. He has repeated the feat since, but he’ll just take a step or two before lunging and falling, or just dropping to a crawl to get where he wants to go. He’s still not very steady on his feet even just standing alone, but he can do it for long enough to take those tentative first steps.

Of course, to the Munchkin, that makes him nearly an equal. And when I say equal, I mean, “fair game.” Since he’s gotten so speedy in crawling and can stand alone, he’s been making quite the effort to get into things. And when we say things like, “Oh, Baby Boy, please don’t dump out the toys/play with the blinds/unstack Mommy’s stamps,” the Munchkin takes it upon herself to become… The Enforcer! (cue dramatic music)

We have seen her literally grab him by the back of his clothes and pull him away from whatever he’s not supposed to be doing. Of course, this makes him mad (and sometimes he gets hurt), and while he’s crying in protest, she’s saying things like, “No no, baby, you no touch.” And then when the Webmaster or I protest about her actions, she looks at us as if to say, “But you told him no! I’m just helping!”

Have I mentioned before that she’s strong-willed? Yeah.

Anyway, there seems to be no escape for me. My kids are built to be early walkers. The boy is nine and a half months old and taking steps. The Munchkin took her first steps four days after she turned nine months old. I thought that I had a good chance of Baby Boy giving me a break and not pushing this so early. No such luck. *sigh*

I know you blame the Webmaster for many of the Munchkin’s antics, but this one sounds an awful lot like YOU!

Ooh, boy are you in for it! I have enough trouble with little dood being as mobile as he is. I’m dreading him walking. I’m thinking of just simplifying my life and installing an enclosure for my little boys. They’re actually pretty good so far, but I forsee a lot more running around in my future with 2 boys.
