Twenty Questions

No baby yet. *sigh*

Yesterday was very interesting for Tad. We have his speech therapy session today, and I will need to remember to tell Kay this. Tad – it seems sudden to me, but it might have been coming on gradually – has the ability to answer yes-or-no questions, if he is asked directly. He either says, “yeah-yeah,” “no no no” or “okay.”

Here are some things I asked him yesterday:

Do you want juice? “Yeah-yeah!”

Do you want seconds? (at dinner) “Okay.”

Can we put the blocks away now? “No no no!”

Do you want a cookie? “Yeah-yeah!”

He is quite clearly listening to us – the trick is to get him to respond. And since he knows what “yes” and “no” mean, he is quite comfortable giving us those answers.

We were supposed to work on giving him choices this week and seeing how he responded. We had a very crazy week and I wasn’t good about keeping up with this. However, when it came to picking a story last night, I gave him a choice. He was sitting on the Webmaster’s lap, and I brought two books out from behind my back. “Do you want PJ Funnybunny or Because a Little Bug Went Ka-Choo?” I asked him.

He smiled, and then reached for both of them. I pulled them slightly back, to try and make him choose one. Finally, he pointed and said, “Bunny!”

Forward we go.
