A Lot Going On

The Sunday before school started, the Webmaster and I sat down with Ane to talk to her. “Honey, you know how Mommy has been feeling sick a lot lately, and very tired?”

She nodded.

“Do you know why?” I asked.

“Because you’re mad at us?” she asked.

“No.”

“Because you want peace and quiet?”

“No, but that would be nice.” I smiled. “I’ve been feeling this way because I have a baby in my tummy.”

Ane squealed and launched herself at me. “Oh, Mommy, I’m so happy!” Then she got serious. “Is this baby going to die?”

“No, honey. Nothing is ever for sure, but Mommy is 12 weeks along now and still feeling pretty sick, so that’s a good thing.”

She nodded. “Now, Mommy, you can’t drink wine because the sign at Fred Meyer said you can’t.”

She was fascinated recently by a warning sign in the wine section about the dangers of drinking while pregnant. The Webmaster explained it to her when she asked about it. “Well, Ane, Mommy doesn’t drink wine, so it’s really not a problem.” I said to her.

“Oh, Mommy, I’m really, really happy. Is it a girl?”

“Well, we don’t know yet.”

“I think it’s a girl.”

“It could be a boy, Ane.”

“Well, you could be right, but I could be right!”

“We get what God gives us, sweetie.”

“And we don’t get upset?”

“Right.”

“Well, I will love the baby even if it is a boy.” Then she lowered her voice. “But I still don’t like Tad.”

*****

My due date is March 15th. Ane is constantly telling everyone that she knows. I’m now at 13 weeks, and have only vomited three times, though not for lack of trying. My doctor has been very kind and I’ve already had two ultrasounds. There is ONE baby in there, and so far, that little heart is beating away steadily.

Yes, we will be finding out what it is, because we won’t be able to pick a name otherwise. We’ve already used our girl name and our boy name.

Yes, Tad is completely oblivious to what is going on.

Yes, I am getting better, though I still get VERY tired by mid-day.

Yes, we are all very, very happy and excited. 🙂

I had picked up on the tired thing! Heartiest congratulations!! Tell Ane I’m happy for her too. And if it’s a boy, it will be OK, because the boys will play together and leave her alone. Maybe.
    Whoopee!!

You might need another boy just so they stand a chance against Ane.
