First Birthday

Dear Rerun,

Today is your very first birthday, my sweet boy.  I can hardly believe that this day has come, that it really has been a full year since you came into our lives and owned all our hearts.

It has been a very fast year and a very busy and full one.  While you have been busy eating, sleeping, growing, crawling and walking, your sister and brother have carried on with their lives as well, and they’ve gotten older, too.  Not a day passes that I don’t realize what a blessing your even, friendly temperament is, because you get dragged everywhere – therapy sessions, doctor appointments, piano lessons, volunteering at school – have baby, will travel.  And you’ve logged plenty of travel time, little guy.  Thank you for being your friendly, happy self to everyone you meet.

I hope that I never forget all the wonderful things that have happened in this first year.  It passed by so quickly, and I treasure every single day of it, and every single picture that I’ve taken of your sweet little chubby-cheeked face.

In this coming year, I know that you will try my patience and my sanity as you head toward full-blown toddlerhood.  The tenacious will of your own that I already see beginning to emerge, especially as you attempt to hold your own against your siblings, will really develop.  The sense of humor that finds the simple turn of phrase or slapstick shtick giggle-worthy will only grow sillier.  Your appetite will only grow more voracious.  Like your sister and brother before you, I know that you are on a quest to take a bite out of life… literally.  But know this… not everything you put in your mouth is going to taste good.  Okay?

Rerun, I am so glad and grateful that we were blessed with you exactly one year ago.  We waited so long for you, and you have brought so much joy and love into our lives that it is hard to remember what our family was like without you.  Happy first birthday, my dear darling son.  May God bless you this next year, and in all the years to come, for you are precious in His sight and in mine.

Love,
Mommy
