Just a few more weeks

Our Wednesday night activities at church are (shockingly) going to end in just a few weeks. What? I thought this was still January??? Where is the time going??

Well, it’s a good thing that it’s wrapping up soon, because this whole nursery deal is killing Ane.

I literally had to peel her off me last night. “Mommy, I don’t wanna stay in nursery,” she cried, huge tears brimming in her blue eyes. “I too big. I wanna go with Mommy!”

I told her no, and asked if she could be my big helper and watch Tad for me with the nursery workers. She refused, and I had to leave with both of my kids crying (Tad wasn’t thrilled about me leaving, either). I asked a fellow Cubbie teacher to run down to the nursery and check in on them a few minutes later, and she reported back that both kids had calmed down and were playing.

I wish I could take Ane to Cubbies. But it’s a combination of problems – her birthday missed the cutoff date, we have enough kids that it feels pretty full in the classrooms (if we had only ten kids every week I might have a better argument, but we had seventeen last night and that is plenty to deal with), and now, we’re just a few weeks away from ending.

Between starting preschool and starting Cubbies, Ane will have a very full fall. In the meantime, I have been trying to think of fun activities that she is old enough to do that will keep her busy over the summer. If anyone has any ideas, leave them in the comments.

As for Tad, I would like to see his English improve (as compared to his gibberish). He called his sister by name a couple of mornings ago, but refuses to repeat it when we ask him. Yet he does have a good understanding of what we are saying to him – we give him simple directions, and he can immediately follow through with them (climb into your highchair, pick up the Duplos, etc.), which is encouraging. If he would just say “Mama” I would be happy. Really, would that kill you, kid?

I feel your frustration on the talking part. Last week, Little Cousin refused to use any words and simply reverted to her babble. This week, however, we’ve been insisting that she say the word “please,” “up,” “down,” or “all done” before she gets what she wants. We endured a lot of crying, but she’s finally talking again. “Mama” is still a no-go. When she’s upset and crying she’ll holler “bah bah bah bah!” which is what she used to say when I prompted her for “Mama.”

Dustbunny is well past two and only just starting to talk – don’t worry, Tad will talk when he’s ready. Try to enjoy the baba-gibberish while it lasts!!!
