Vacation pictures, part 1

Here are the first batch of pictures from our trip, with commentary. Hope you enjoy them!

We got to visit the Captain on post at Fort Leonard Wood, and we took a picnic lunch and the kids got to play at one of the several playgrounds at the fort. Belle practically lives outdoors, and my kids loved this particular playground a lot.

Saturday, we took a trip out to Mansfield, where the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum is located. This was a childhood dream come true for me. I grew up reading and loving all of the Little House books (we never watched the TV show – the books were better), and to visit the place where she wrote the books and lived most of her adult life was a wonderful experience. And I saw Pa’s fiddle! However, you can’t take pictures inside the house or museum, but you can take all you want outside.

We took a quick run up to the Rock House, where Laura and her husband Almanzo lived for several years. This is a few miles away from the farmhouse, which they moved back to later.

The Captain even drove me to the Mansfield Cemetary, where I left flowers and paid my respects. This was very meaningful to me.

More pictures tomorrow! I have lots to share! I’m going to get the Webmaster to put up more on our SmugMug site.
