Skipping Naps

It was Sunday and we had no plans for the evening (slightly unusual). So I figured we’d just let the kids skip their naps today. Ane’s been getting better about missing her nap IF we have no plans for the evening, and we just have to keep an eye on Tad to make sure that he doesn’t go crazy or collapse in fatigue. And the bonus is that both kids go to bed early and drop right off to sleep.

But as Ane and I were trying to watch The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (which she liked, but then thought was too scary, but then really liked again by the end), Tad started to go bonkers. He was jumping all over me and bugging Ane to distraction. So the Webmaster swept Tad up and took him for a little “quiet time” in his room.

It got really, really quiet. So I sent Ane to take a peek. She found her father and brother, both fast asleep, in the glider in Tad’s room. They must have been out for 90 minutes or so.

Later, Ane was bugging me with the eternal question – “what are we having for dinner?” – and not liking any of my answers. Finally, I told her to go cook dinner herself and let me know what she was making.

“I can’t do that!” she cried, scandalized. “You’re the mom! You’re in charge!”

“How nice of you to remember that,” I replied.

Sarcasm is lost on a six-year-old.

Anyway, she climbed into the Webmaster’s lap – and promptly fell asleep. She must have been out for a half-hour before we woke her up. It was getting too late to let her sleep.

For the record, we had “brinner” (breakfast-for-dinner) – hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausage – which was exactly what Ane wanted.

And it looks like none of us quite ready to give up naps altogether.

We often still take naps at my house too.
