Spoiled Children

The two older kids were watching Batman last night on TV (the 60’s TV show is on every weeknight on one of the many cable channels we have), when the first commercial break came on.

“MOM!  Commercial!  Fast-forward!” Ane yelled.

“That’s LIVE TV!”  I yelled back.  “You’re just going to have to WATCH the commercials and WAIT!”

“Oh,” she said.

These children have been spoiled rotten by DVR technology.  We’ve had one since before Tad was born, and I honestly don’t know what would happen if we no longer could watch our recorded shows on demand, or fast-forward or rewind TV.

Not only are these kids spoiled, but their mother now feels very old.  But at least they’re watching TV shows that are older than me.

Cowgirl is in the midst of a My Little Pony OBSESSION! She knows that I can find episodes of the new show online (youtube). So every time I’m at my computer or, better yet, it’s on but I’m not using it, she assumes she can demand an episode. When an episode’s done, she just shouts “Mommy, more ponies, please!”

If you think this is spoiled, just make a list of all the things they will never know about. VHS, CDs, LPs, dail-up, the list goes on. I still remember the “green screen” computers from days of old.

I still remember *no* computers (at school or at home); and no microwave.

I got books on tape from the library and Carter was so confused about having to rewind them before listening to them…
