The Beach

We kept telling Tad that we were going to the beach.  He understood this.  He was looking forward to it.  He was excited about it.

Then we pulled up to the rental house and he said, “Hey, this isn’t the beach!”

We finally got to the beach after we got back to the rental house and changed clothes after the wedding.  The sun had finally come out, so we walked the three blocks from the house to the beach.  We had two very excited kids and one very curious baby.

I had the kids wear their boots, because I knew that nothing was going to stop them from wading in the cold ocean.

That kind of worked, but the waves come in fast, and both kids ended up with water and sand inside their boots.

Having wet feet wasn’t much of a deterrent, though.

The sun was starting to head down… it was so light out so late, because we were about as far west as one can get in the continental United States.  Lewis and Clark first saw the Pacific Ocean not far from here.

Even Rerun got some sand under his feet, though the wind made it chilly for little boys very quickly.

The next day, we left the kids’ boots at the house, donned the Keens, and went back to build a sand castle.  We left Rerun at the house with Nana and Papa, who took turns watching him and coming out to the beach to see the castle in progress.

Ane took it very seriously.

Tad liked the idea of building, but was more in favor of smashing.  We lost more than one turret to his stomping, much to his sister’s dismay.

Finally, it was completed, and we got a picture before Tad-zilla tried to smash it.

Both kids had a great time at the beach.

Cleanup was much easier on day two.  Have I mentioned how much we love Keens?  WE REALLY LOVE THEM.

Ane and Tad are already asking when we can go back to the beach.  Maybe we’ll go to a closer one during the summer.

The Westport house hasn’t sold; not even many lookers. So it’s yours when you want it! Sorry it has stairs…
