Ane’s Birthday Party

Version 5.0, as it were.

Ane had been looking forward to this day for… well, a year. We started the day with chains on the van and headed to the mall to get her 5-year-old portrait taken. After which we hit Red Robin (which is codenamed “Crimson Bird” around our house [name credit: Ressis] because our kids have sharp ears), where Ane eagerly told everyone in earshot that it was HER birthday. Sadly, due to snow, they were short staffed that day and while she got her birthday sundae, they couldn’t spare anyone to come and sing to her. The Webmaster and I sang instead, with Tad clapping along, which assuaged her disappointment.

The lack of singing didn’t affect the taste of the sundae, as you can see.

Her party was that evening, and most everyone braved the slush and bad driving conditions on our street to come. And she was READY.

She enjoyed every second of it, and had to be reminded to open cards first (Mommy was making a list, kid!). Friend finally ran interference for cards and other children who wished to “help.” It was so hard for the little ones to understand that this was a birthday party, not another Christmas. It also didn’t help that Ane was very, um, territorial about the whole thing.

She LOVED her cake. The other kids were impressed by it as well.

And it looked pretty good lit up, too.

It took Ane two blows to get all the candles out because she had to circle around the cake. Still, pretty good! Head was suitably impressed, as you can see by how he’s observing her.

She had a very happy birthday. Now we need to work on bringing her back to reality from her “Princess of the World” mental state.
