What’s left?

Decorations up? Check.

Tree up and decorated? Check (no thanks to the kids).

Snow melting? Check.

Cards ready? Oh, THAT’S it…

My weekend got eaten up by a shopping run on Saturday – including haircuts for both kids!! – and a cookie exchange party at A. and C.’s house on Sunday afternoon. And of course, the decorating. And did I mention that both the kids got haircuts?

The Munchkin just got a bang trim, but Tad had his first actual haircut. I had never taken scissors to her perfect boy hair before, but he had grown out this pointy little bang that was starting to get in his eyes. So it really was time to get it cut. *sob*

He did fantastically well at this child’s hair salon that I discovered some months ago – Fun Kuts, in Lynnwood (for you local or formerly local people). Tad happily played with a bin of toys while his hair was trimmed on top and a little around his ears. The Munchkin was not so pleased that her brother was muscling in on her action. She LOVES going to get her hair cut, because the salon has really great toys. She didn’t mind that Tad was in the waiting area playing with toys, but sitting in the little car and getting his hair cut? Yeah, she was not real happy with that one. But she got over it quickly.

And by now you’re all asking, where are the pictures? Well, here you go:

Before with the pointy bang

How much hair am I gonna lose?

The deed is done

All smiles after his trim

Adorable, isn’t he? He looks so grown-up now. *sigh*

The cookie exchange was a lot of fun and very tasty. C. dared me to make a Cylon Centurion cookie, and I fashioned a gingerbread cutout that looked more like an Autobot head symbol from the Transformers than an actual Centurion – but they were a hit (with their red frosting and red sprinkles for the glowing eye) and I won a prize for them.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Webmaster put up our Christmas tree, and I put the lights on it and decorated it once I got back. The Munchkin got to “put” a few ornaments on, while Tad tried to take some off. Yeah, this is going to be fun.

So, the cards are not yet done. They are going to be by the end of this week at the very latest, or so help me, I am kicking the Webmaster and the kids out of the house until they are.

Oh, and that contest I promised on Friday? Here it is…

The Munchkin is rapidly approaching her third birthday. And I’m beginning to get the feeling that she may have outgrown her blog name, especially since she now has a younger brother and two younger cousins. She really isn’t the “munchkin” of our immediate or extended family anymore. But, I don’t have a good new name ready for her. And this is where all of you come in.

I need a new name for The Munchkin. If you’ve read this blog for a while, you’ve gotten the idea of what kind of kid she is, so I’m turning to you all for help. The winner of this contest will win a $10 gift card to Starbucks (or some sort of equivalent offering from coffee-rich Seattle, if you don’t live in the United States). The Captain has already offered his opinion on a new blog name for her, and here’s his current list:
Cheese
Squirt
Booger
Dino Number 2 (Dino was my childhood nickname)
Mohammad
Snuggles
Chatty
Big Sister
Troi Number 2 (Troi has been one of my nicknames since 1987)
Bubba
Older Cousin
Eddy
You can vote for one of these, or create your own. There are a few stipulations on creating a new name for the Munchkin, though.

1) I would prefer to NOT have a name that uses “The”. This doesn’t mean that if you think of the perfect blog name for her and it uses “The”, it will be rejected. I will likely show preference to the names that don’t use it, though.

2) Any nickname given to the Munchkin must not refer to her real name or any nickname that she may or may not use connected to her real name. This rule also includes her middle name. I’ve already considered using it, but, unlike Tad, her middle name doesn’t lend itself to an easy Americanized nickname. If you don’t know the Munchkin’s real name, then you may be at an advantage here.

3) Obviously, it should be age-appropriate and clean enough to use for a three year old girl.

I think that’s all for the rules. Leave your entries in the comments. The winner will be declared on December 27th, when I will write the Munchkin’s birthday post and reveal her new blog name.

You all go and get creative. I’ll be working on my cards if you need me.

Great pictures of Tad’s new ‘do’ but where is Munchkin’s newest?!
And, my vote for a new ‘name’: Sassafras.
Munchkin is a bit sassy, spicy and the oil of sassafras can be a bit volatile! It also makes great root beer if you brew it correctly!
    hugs to all!

Loved the pictures of Tad getting his hair cut – what a well behaved and very handsome lad he is! It’s going to seem quite strange not to think of Munchkin as ‘Munchkin!’.
Are we allowed multiple entries if we think up some more names? Here are my suggestions so far….
    Cookie Monster
    TeaBag
    Bunny
    Little Lady
    LadyBird

    B’Elanna
    Saavik
    T’Pol

or if you’re not into star trek references…

    Kawaii (cute in Japanese)
    Kashikoi (clever)
    Ichiban (#1)

Okay, that’s all I can think of right now.

Good luck to me (oh, and you too)!

[…] There’s still plenty of time to put your two cents’ worth into the Rename the Munchkin contest (scroll down to the bottom of the original post for the rules and prize information). There have been several good suggestions so far (and those of you who have already given me ideas, keep adding to them – there aren’t any limits on the number of names you can submit for consideration!), which has actually spurred my imagination a little in the pseudonym department. Oh, and if I end up going with a name that was not suggested, but inspired by someone’s entry, then that person who gave me the idea will end up with that $10 gift card to Starbucks. I won’t keep the prize for myself. […]

[…] Anyway, when the Munchkin’s first Christmas rolled around, she was 2 days shy of her first birthday. (And we’re still taking contest entries, people!) The Webmaster and I are both fortunate enough to have all four of our grandmothers still living, though none of our biological grandfathers are (I have a wonderful step-grandfather that I call my Grandpa). So, because grandmothers are notoriously hard to shop for, and to show off my crafty skills, I made a 6×6 scrapbook of photos from the Munchkin’s first year for each of her great-grandmothers, even though it wasn’t technically over at that point. […]

[…] Since Tad decided to acquire a fat lip and push off our family pictures another week, the Webmaster and I decided that he needs a good haircut before we go. Unlike his sister, he never went completely bald as a baby. He always had a fuzzy head of perfect little boy hair – no bald spots and it covered his head and never grew much. We finally had to get his bangs trimmed, but the rest of his hair has remained as is – baby fluff and all. But it’s time to trim some of that fluff down – his hair is starting to develop a bit of curl (not unlike his dad), so his pillow hair is tremendously amusing, but very hard to control. Wish me luck – we’re going in this afternoon. […]
